Love Those Devil Dogs
'I Love You (But You're Boring)' is on streaming platforms for the first time, plus HOT NEW MERCH and all the latest messages from your friends in Los Campesinos!
Heyyyy. I hope you’re doing well. Sorry it’s been longer between mailers this time, but hopefully there’s enough info in here to make up for it. If you wanna chat, I’ll see you in the comments…
I Love You (But You’re Boring)
The Beautiful South are my favourite band and they probably always will be. They're the band I grew up with and, in the late 90s, the first band I felt was ‘mine’. Which is funny considering the ubiquity of TBS in your parents’ multi-disc CD player at the time.
We recorded this cover back in 2011, as part of our Heat Rash ‘zine/7” series. I can’t remember how I managed to convince the rest of the band we should cover TBS, but I think we did a really good job with our version (which features mine and Kim’s dad on BVs!). Here’s the original if you want to compare.

There’s no real reason for this to be going on streaming at this time, other than that there was no good reason for it not to be on streaming. I suppose we’re tying up loose ends before moving on to the next thing. If you’re not familiar, or if you’re very familiar, I’ve made a playlist of my Best of the Beautiful South. It’s absolutely incomplete, but when pushed I’d say the last song in there is my all-time Favourite Song and I love this live version of it so much.
New LC! Merch and Restocked Items
You’ve just scrolled past our TBS cover and thought to yourself “that’s some lovely artwork”, well great news, you can get it on a t-shirt! Our American Mustard design has previously only been seen on a tote bag, but can now be worn on your chest, and we’ve brought back some favourites from recent years in the ‘…is for Lovers’ and Fistfight designs. On top of that we’ve restocked our design classic DOOMED and Hello Sadness items, AND ‘The Universe Replied’ is available again (as well as a neat Romance Is Boring Print).
As always, merch is available at a lower price for those of you who will benefit from the saving. Please don’t go spending like $150 and using the ‘lower’ option though (this has been happening), that’s not what it’s for.
Sparky Deathcap Merch
Or maybe Rob’s your favourite LC! member and you prefer your money to go directly to him? Bobby’s beavering away to bring his Tear Jerky EP back to the world, but while you wait for that you can always pick up some of his Sparky Deathcap merchandise.
Mass Projection #3
Matt - Summer is a bit of a mixed bag in the U.K. - it's either too hot to function, or somehow cold and rainy enough that you forget it's even supposed to be nice out. Thankfully, ambient music fits the mood for either, so this latest playlist is a selection of humid and aqueous downtempo tracks of all styles, running from DJ Python's tender deep club tracks to Mary Lou Williams' skeletal blues piano and Pole's expansive dub-techno (yes, I'm really stretching the use of the term "ambient" here). The Lonnie Holley track at the end is one I've had on rotation since seeing him play live earlier this year, which was one of the most moving sets I've seen in a very long time. The track is nearly 18 minutes long, but worth listening to every single second of it.
Some Photos From Nice Recent LC! Hangs
Notes
Too much time has passed for it to be relevant but when Soccer AM came to an end a few weeks ago, I flagged to share this image with you all. The only remaining evidence that yes, a long time ago (April 12 2008), we were guests on the sofa (alongside Roberto Di Matteo and Ricky Hatton).
Messages received from Matt last night re: this record, as a big recommend: “weird smoked-out ambient rap stuff”, “On that label Sferic who did Space Afrika etc”, “Probably the first thing I've impulse bought from Boomkat after listening to like 30 seconds of music in a while”.
Speaking of Matt, he’s playing bass for Persher at Atonal Festival in Berlin in September. So if you live in Germany that’s probably gonna be your best chance to see (a member of) LC! live.
For the next mailer I’ll do a lyrical deep-dive of one of our songs on Genius. Because you guys are really bad at it. Make your suggestions in the comments!
Join our Fantasy Football League here ahead of the new season’s start.
New ME REX single. And a new ME REX album and tour.
There won’t be any LC! gigs this year, but there will be news on LC! gigs before the end of this year.
Hopefully the next mailer you get from us will be info on a NO BLUES vinyl repress. All dependant on vinyl turnaround times etc but it’s coming.
Thank you for being here, we’ll write again soon x
To Tundra or Avacado Baby for the lyrical deep dive please! glad to know you're all alive
Long time listener, first time commenter. I vote for a 'What Death Leaves Behind' lyric deep dive!
