š“ 'More Hell' EP is OUT NOW!
Stream 5 new versions and a cover of a fave. PLUS new merch online.
Today we release the More Hell EP digitally, and on all streaming platforms. A companion piece to our 7th album All Hell, featuring reworked versions of 5 songs from the record, plus a cover of a favourite song.
Maybe itās self indulgent but we love the albumās strings, and the sax, and all the intimate details that can get lost in a fuller arrangement. Stripping the songs back to these skeletal versions allows all those elements and great musicians to come to the fore. Tom and I re-recorded guitars and vocals to better suit the restrained instrumentation, and that brought us to these pretty renditions.
Wait by the Secret Stars has been one of my favourite songs for two decades. I first encountered it when a friend included it on a mixtape for me as a teenager. For years, this tape dub was the only way I had of listening to the song, and Iād play it over and over. Clunk-rewind-etc. A little later Iād buy the Death Cab āYou Can Play These Songs with Chordsā CD and was struck by lightning when I surprisedly heard their version. I loved this too and it became a staple of the love letter mix CDs Iād make for others. At some point I found a trashy mp3 on Soulseek, but would keep going back to the tape until 2012 when somebody uploaded the original version of the song to YouTube - a rip of the vinyl audio, playing atop a video of the 7ā spinning on a turntable. It feels kind of perfect that the original, 30 years since its release, still hasnāt made its way to streaming. I hope our version will find a place on playlists you send to others to keep this cycle going.
The EP is available on all streaming platforms, and you can download it from Bandcamp.
(Yes, these are the recordings that were briefly available as part of a ādeluxeā download of All Hell on the week of the albumās release. Nothing has been changed, so if you purchased them previously (thank you!) you neednāt do so again)
Valentines 2 Night Stand
No matter how many times we do it, Iām always taken by surprise by how much hard work and preparation goes into a big gig, and all of that is well underway for TWO-such Big Gigs! The biggest LC! shows ever, on a beautifully lit stage with violin, cello, saxophone, trombone and trumpet.
A few people have been asking if weāll be playing the same set both nights, to which the answer is emphatically ānoā. Weāre a while off sorting the final setlists (and weāll obviously not be announcing them in advance) but Iād anticipate a variation of about 40% each evening.
Weāll be announcing the opening acts very soon, PLUS a free pre-party to be held nearby, giving you chance to hang out during the day (and buy merch at your leisure so you donāt have to queue for ages once in the venue!).
Donāt forget, if you buy tickets for both nights you can get them for a cheaper bundle price!
New Merch Online Now
The designs we had on our recent UK tour are finally available to buy online! Honestly, the reason it took so long to get them on the store is that I feel bad about, essentially, instructing you to spend money on our band all the time. But here we are! The Mortal Joy tour shirts are available in limited quantities (and sizes) as they were exclusive to the tour and weāre only selling whatās left over. The rest of them are available in all sizes, with a slight pre-order period so we can gauge just how many to print.
Weāve also reduced some lingering shirt designs to just Ā£15, so you can pick up a bargain while youāre there.
If youāre in the market for a copy of All Hell on vinyl, then Iām reminding you that the new Lunar Rays colourway exists. If youāre in the US then you should be able to pick this up at your local record store. I was gonna publish a list of all the locations that are stocking it, but itās over 150 names long, so take a chance and have a browse of the racks next time youāre in your favourite record shop.
Los Camp! at Primavera Sound
Weāll be playing Primavera Sound in both Barcelona and Porto in the Summer of 2025! Of all the festivals in the world, this is probably the one that weāve most wanted to play for the last few years, but had up until now eluded us. Weāre incredibly excited to be invited to play both the Spanish and Portuguese legs on a lineup with so many other amazing bands.
Back in 2010 we played the festivalās pre-party, as part of a Wichita 10th Birthday celebration, and got free tickets to the festival as a result. We had an incredible time but were admittedly a bit jealous not to be playing the real thing. Very glad that 15 years on we get to put things right.
Hoping some of our Spanish (first time since Benidorm in 2014) and Portuguese (first time since 2010) fans finally get to see us (let us know in the comments!) but Iām sure thereāll be a good contingent of Brits abroad too? For sure weāll be making a weekend of this, and seeing as many bands as we can in Barcelona.
Matt Guest DJs on Rinse FM
Matt says: āIfeoluwa has been one of my favourite DJs for a long time - an excellent selecta, writer, producer, and an LC! fan to boot. She very kindly invited me to a guest mix for her Tears in the Club show on Rinse FM, which went out live earlier this week and is up to listen back now. This one compiles the kind of tracks I'd (like to) play in a club (if I ever got booked lol), recorded live at home on my decks, spanning murky dub, leftfield techno and a bit of dark garage for good measure. PlentyĀ of heaters from friends in this one like Littlefoot and Nelson of the East, plus some new(er) producers who made me excited about dance music again like Ploy, Lucy and Piezo. Enjoy!ā
Matt has his own Substack which you can subscribe to here.
If youāve been around these parts for a while, youāll know that Trust Fund are a long-time favourite band of ours. Ellisā excellent new album came out a couple of weeks back, and his UK tour is underway right now. Iām really looking forward to the Bristol gig (and also seeing Lightning Seeds with my Dad on Thursday night!).
Any other Elverum-heads in here? Iāve been bristling, waiting for Mount Eeerieās Night Palace since its announce and have lived inside it since its release. Also want to shout out the new Fred Thomas album. His āindie-liferā trilogy of records released from 2015-2018 are favourites of mine which for some reason Iāve never really publicly proclaimed, but his new one āWindow in the Rhythmā is on another level, and immediately goes to top spot for me.
This is a month+ old now, but if youād previously missed it, itās good value and worth checking out. Hearing Things is a new website helmed by a quintet of former Pitchfork staffers, prioritising engrossing music writing over advertising and the algorithm. We were really chuffed to speak to them in their launch week. Iāve spoken with Ryan Dombal a handful of times over the past two decades and each conversation has been open and enjoyable. Plenty of topics covered in here, but Iām particularly candid about the financials of touring, which may be enlightening, but if not Iām sure thereās some lore in there too!
2025 plotting continues. Still working on sneaking back to North America before our visas expire (14 June), and there are more festival appearances to announce!
See you in the comments.
With love,
LC! x
A necessary salve after the US election results. Means the world to have these songs a little more precious and tender to help cope with the state of things. Forever grateful, anything we can do to help get you back state side say the word.
Spanish fan here, very excited about the Primavera gig even if I'm not gonna be able to make it! Sadly it goes a bit above my budget, but I'm still very happy that you guys are coming back to our land and I hope you have a blast during the gig <3
