A Psychic Wound + the Mortal Joy UK Tour
Watch the video for ANOTHER new song: 'A Psychic Wound', and get all the info on our September UK dates
Less than 48 hours ago we wrote to tell you about our new album All Hell, and our first new song for 7 years, Feast of Tongues. But we’re not resting on our laurels…
A Psychic Wound
Here’s a second single for you, and if Feast of Tongues was contemplative, this one’s a no-nonsense banger. We played A Psychic Wound for the first time in front of 3,000 of you at our huge Troxy show in February. Now you all get to experience that night in the song’s music video.
Thank you to our friend James Hankins and his amazing team of camera ops for capturing that unbelievable Troxy night for us. The video above is a small part of the upcoming ‘Live at Troxy’ documentary. All of you who pre-order the album will have access to the online premiere for a watch-along of the doc, another good reason to get on board with All Hell.
As for A Psychic Wound…
“I try to forget it/ It comes back to me/ Tied to the pulse of the sea”. That massive lyrical anchor that sits at the bottom of the anthemic chorus of A Psychic Wound, the second single from UK emo greats Los Campesinos!’ seventh album All Hell, will immediately conjure familiarity for longtime LC! fans. It’s impossible to hear any sort of oceanic imagery from Gareth’s lips without thinking of the devastating fan favourite The Sea Is a Good Place to Think of the Future from the band’s sweeping third LP Romance Is Boring. Similar to that song and true to its own title, A Psychic Wound feels searing in its emotional evisceration, every lyrical turn of phrase leaving a lasting impression. As a longtime fan of Los Campesinos! and the musical world they’ve fostered through immense influence, there has always proved limitless appeal in their melding of deeply felt melodicism—an alchemical combination of indie-pop’s inventiveness and the reflective intensity of emo—and lyrical expressions that, even at their most seemingly obtuse, slot into your life’s experiences like perfectly arranged tetraminos. So A Psychic Wound is one of many moments on All Hell in which the Los Campesinos! experience is all-gas-no-brakes, a thrilling rush that makes you grateful for their return as well as for the complicated beauty of life itself.” Larry Fitzmaurice

Because it’s All Hell, we’re heading out on tour to experience some Mortal Joy. Later this year we’ll be tripping through England and into Scotland. Last Few Dinked Copies Remain
We worked with Dinked to make 900 super-special versions of All Hell, and less than 100 remain. There are loads of cool differences between this and the other versions, but my favourite details are the red foil lettering on the cover, and the 12-page lyric booklet which features extra photography, some of engineer Milo’s equipment notes, and a full list of the gear we used on the album. Our friends at Monorail in Glasgow, and Banquet in Kingston still have copies for now, and some more below…
All Hell Merchandise
All the merch associated with the All Hell pre-order is, of course, elite level, and the brilliant work of Rob.
This pennant is my favourite of the lot. Manufactured by Oxford Pennant in Buffalo, New York, you can see from their website that these are really great quality. We’ve wanted to do pennants for a long time, but this is the first time I’ve been able to find a manufacturer that could use synthetic felt, rather than wool felt, and so we’ve paid that little bit extra to make them vegan too! £15’s a steal for these, so why not grab that bundle.
Also, each copy of the ‘Harvest Moon’ vinyl (and bundle) comes with one of these (to be) signed photographic prints, shot by the very talented Martyna Bannister.
These are professionally printed by Photographique in Bristol. Pre-internet, prints like these used to be mailed out to magazines and newspapers to be scanned and reproduced in their publications. I’ve about 10 different versions of the Beautiful South that I got from eBay, and so it’s fun to have done our own!
One more reminder on those shows in the USA, which are now, oh shit, less than one month away! Boston, Philly, Cleveland, Portland and Los Angeles remain.
The reception to Feast of Tongues was genuinely way more than we anticipated. We weren't sure if coming back with a slow-y would disappoint you, but it seems it definitely hasn’t. I wanted to point out a cool detail in Rob’s cover art that I don’t think anyone’s noticed: the song references the album ‘American Water’ by the Silver Jews (one of our collective fave albums of all time, in case you’re not familiar) and Tongues’ artwork replicates the horizon found on that album’s cover art.
Okay, that’s it for now! Thank you for being so kind to us. We’ll write again next week, to share the Mortal Joy Tour pre-sale ticket link, and we’ll try to have conjured up some more cool shit by then too!
Who’s coming to see us on tour then!?
See you in the comments. LC! x
